My son (11 years old, 5’6”, 200 lbs) and I (30 years old, 6’, 285 lbs) want to start exercising to improve our health. We’re both overweight but have a lot of energy and are generally healthy, with no issues from health screenings or checkups.
I do have arthritis in my L4/L5, but I can manage it.
I’m looking for advice on how to get started. We’re considering waking up early to go for a walk and gradually building up to a jog. We’d also do some basic aerobic stretches and bodyweight exercises to build strength and stamina before investing in home weights.
Our house is small, so there isn’t much room for us to work out indoors, so we’re thinking of exercising outside.
Does this plan sound reasonable? Any tips on distance vs. time for walking or suggestions for effective bodyweight workouts?
TLDR: Looking for workout advice for a father and son to improve health and fitness at home.
