I purchased a set of resistance bands ranging from 30 to 70 lbs, and despite double-checking my door between each set, the door came open, and I got hit in the face by the band and door anchor. Has anyone found a reliable way to mount a wall or ceiling hook? Even if I drill into a beam, I’m not sure I can trust it anymore.
This can happen if the anchor is of poor quality and gets deformed enough to slide through the door gap. Also, never pull the band in the direction the door opens. Quality is crucial when it comes to resistance bands.
I anchored mine to the door hinges by replacing the pins with long 1/4 inch screws through three-inch straps, similar to the ones used at the base of U-bolts. I also added a nut at the bottom for extra security. [Link to image: Imgur: The magic of the Internet]
This door hinge idea looks really clever! I went with mounting hooks on my wall instead. Just be sure to use long screws and secure them into solid wood. The hooks I got were about $20 for two on Amazon. I definitely prefer the hooks over the door anchor, but after seeing this hinge method, it might be the better option.
I tied mine in knots and then closed the door completely.
I drilled a small pilot hole in the stud next to the door frame and screwed in a 1-inch screw eye. It’s very secure and strong. I attach the band to the screw eye using a locking climbing carabiner, and I can use up to a green band with no issues. Give it a try!
Ouch! That shouldn’t happen. Head to a fabric store like Joann’s and get some 1” to 1 1/2” nylon webbing strap—about 2 feet should be enough.
Double it over and tie two overhand knots at one end. Slide it through the hinge side of the door jamb and close the door. Once the door is shut, there’s no way it’s coming loose. I’ve been doing this for years.
I actually used an old seatbelt I found for free.
I really like this idea—so simple! And yes, that webbing is incredibly strong.
It happens—I once slammed my back with a set of webbing and a 1/2” carabiner. I mounted a 18”x 36” piece of 3/4” plywood using 3” cabinet-grade screws. Into that, I installed 3/8” eye hooks to clip the carabiner into. I made sure to screw them into the studs to prevent any pullouts, with one hook at 8’, another at 6’, and one on the floor.
If you can install a system on your wall, I recommend using anchors from Anchor Gym. I tried a door anchor and didn’t like it. Tying a resistance band through a door anchor for different exercises at various heights is time-consuming and a hassle. The Anchor Gym system is really easy to use. Once the anchors are installed, you just slide the band over and into the hook. There’s no threading or knotting involved, which makes using resistance bands much more enjoyable.
I haven’t tried this, but it’s affordable:
