Hi, I’m just getting back into fitness after a significant decline since 2020. I’ve been swimming regularly and doing basic cardio routines, which are going well, but I’m struggling with weight lifting since I’m new to it. I lift weights at home and have a barbell, dumbbells, and bands, but I don’t have a bench due to space limitations. I’m using some apps for guidance, but I could use additional routines, especially with weights, as I prefer them over the bands. I’m also dealing with wrist injuries due to a weakness from a break several years ago. I take anti-inflammatory meds and use wrist supports, but I still occasionally hurt myself. Any advice on managing this would be greatly appreciated.
This isn’t medical advice, but you could try wrapping your wrist to limit movement. Also, stick to using bands instead of weights.
Anti-inflammatory medicine can slow down your muscle gains and muscle tone because they hinder the very processes that build muscle. While they don’t completely stop growth, they can make progress slower and more difficult.
Having had surgeries on both wrists, my advice is to reduce the weight you’re lifting, increase your reps, shorten your overall session time, and focus on perfect, slow form. Working out for 15 minutes a day, 5 days a week (with rest in between) will be more beneficial than doing 1 or 2 long hour-long sessions. Good luck!
