I'm working on developing a rotational exercise plan to keep my busy mind engaged

I’m approaching my 30s and want to focus on long-term fitness. While I’m reasonably active, I’ve struggled to maintain a consistent fitness routine due to my short attention span and tendency to get bored quickly. I’ve found success in other areas of my life by cycling through different interests, but exercise requires more consistency. I’ve tried many routines over the years, but they only last a couple of months before falling apart. I’m considering structuring my exercise routine to better suit my personality.

Here’s my plan: I want to create a routine with a simple ‘core’ of basic exercises (like pull-ups, squats, push-ups) that I can do regularly without much thought. This will be complemented by a ‘rotation’ of more engaging activities (such as running, swimming, hiking, or rock climbing) that I can switch between over time. I have basic home equipment (dumbbells, pull-up bar, yoga mat), and the core exercises will be straightforward and quick, allowing me to fit them into my day with minimal prep.

For the rotational activities, I want them to be stimulating and involve going out of the house. I’m not looking for a specific program, but any advice on which exercises might fit well into this structure and whether this approach sounds effective would be appreciated. My main goal is general fitness and finding a routine that works for me, with a bit of strength increase as a secondary goal.

Apps have been very helpful for me in staying consistent and knowing what to do. While weights are excellent for the gym, changing weights at home takes too much time, and I don’t have space for a bench. Instead, I opted for loop resistance bands and achieved great results. I use the Weller band app.
