How Far Can Home Workouts Take You?

@Reid
Agreed, ambitiousclick…Consistency and remaining injury-free are the keys to developing change.

Have you never seen the gymnasts doing rings in the Olympics?

True, but they’re not really doing bodyweight fitness at home.

Bruh, I haven’t even gone to a gym and I have everything a fit man will have and more.

I think a home workout can be very effective. You probably will need a pull-up bar and eventually a pair of gymnastics rings. Any workout that allows you to progressively overload your muscles and induce hypertrophy can be effective. Bodyweight works great because it’s at home, you can easily cram it into a tight schedule, and there is never any excuse to miss a workout. It also builds functional strength that forces you to develop all of your muscles before you can advance, unlike weightlifting. The downside to it is that progress can not always be as tangible, and it’s easy to start slacking off at home. You have to be disciplined and consistent and keep pushing yourself. I personally started off working out at home, built a lot of strength and confidence, but kind of plateaued. I moved to going to a climbing gym that had a lot of calisthenics equipment and weights and kind of integrated some new methods into my workout to advance. Now I do calisthenics and weight training. Everything is really dependent on your goals and current circumstances.

You could go all the way to planches, and if you check out this post from a year ago, theoretically, you can work up to a reverse planche. Keep in mind, however, that for pulling strength, this is very inefficient.

Home workouts will take you as far as you can imagine.

From my own POV, it’s better than going out because I can just stop what I’m doing and do a 30 min BWF session.

Once I am done with my day’s work and back home in my comfy clothes, I’m not going back out again, so if I had to go to the gym to train, I would not train.
