Question about using the treadmill

Hi everyone, I need to improve my cardio. I’ve gained quite a bit of weight, and while I do some strength training, my cardio has really fallen off.

I’m considering getting a small treadmill, and I have two options, but one is much cheaper.

Option one goes up to 4 miles per hour (6.4 km/h), and the other goes up to 8 miles per hour.

My goal is strictly for walking. I want a simple cardio tool, but I’m wondering if the less expensive version will be fast enough to help me reach my goals.

So, my question is: Is a 4 mph walk brisk enough to improve cardio, given that I wouldn’t be able to go faster?

I’m not planning to run or jog.

Thanks!

Okay, but cardio won’t be effective if you don’t also focus on your diet. Try reducing carbs and increasing protein intake.

Which ones are you considering? I’d recommend choosing one that allows you to run in case you get bored. At the gym, I often vary my speed and pick up the pace for running toward the end.

Is the treadmill your only option due to safety concerns in your neighborhood, air quality, or extreme temperatures? If not, I’d recommend considering outdoor running for your budget and knee health.

Try walking outside. The fresh air will benefit you, the cold can help burn calories, and it’ll improve your cardio more than a machine. Plus, you can change up your route to keep things interesting!

A jump rope is another inexpensive and space-saving option. It provides a fantastic cardio workout, is very affordable, and can easily be stored in a drawer when not in use.
