Looking for good home workout tips

Supp guyz I’m 5.1" and weigh 59kg. My aim is to lose some weight and gain muscle, but I’m currently unable to afford a gym membership since I’m a broke college student. Does anyone know of any solid workout routines or YouTube channels that have worked for you in the past? I’m hoping to avoid jumping exercises since I live in an apartment.

edit: thank you for your suggestions! I have 1lb ankle weights, a mat, and a resistance band already. I’ll definitely check out Darebee and Heather Robertson; they look really approachable. If anyone has beginner-friendly suggestions, I’d love to hear them!

A lot of folks here really like Caroline Girvin’s workouts

MadFit has tons of no-jump workouts! https://youtube.com/@madfit?si=CrO5rECaSvalnm20

@Fox
I agree with Caroline Girvan! I’ve been following her workouts since January and the results have been amazing!

@Fox
that’s some impressive before and after! I looked at her channel and it seems a bit overwhelming; where do you recommend I start? I’ve heard people say to train different body parts on different days. How do I set up a schedule for that? Or is that not really necessary for beginners

@Paz
I suggest picking a series and starting on day one. There’s a beginner epic program to help you get going.

Her series are awesome because you don’t have to think about which body parts to train, it’s all set up for you.

Can you check if your school’s rec center is open? Many colleges offer free access to their rec centers as they are included in tuition

I commute 45 minutes each way; it’s not worth it for a gym that’s overflowing with finance students. Otherwise, I would consider it.

I stand at 153cm (about 5’0) and last year, my highest weight was around 60kg.

I lost some weight through counting calories and intermittent fasting, getting down to around 57kg?

Then I included Heather Robertson workouts (HR2.0) using 1.5kg and 3kg dumbbells starting January, which helped me drop to about 54kg by March.

I began going to the gym in April but haven’t seen much progress, likely due to my busy work schedule, and I’m currently around 53kg.

What’s your daily calorie intake like?

Sorry if I’m not much help, but I don’t track my calories since I live with a grandparent who loves to cook. If I had to guess, I’d say I’m under 1,500?

I’ve started tracking recently and usually aim for 1,400 calories, hitting around 80g protein daily. I feel satisfied and full of energy.

Check out Michelle Briehler or Sydney Cummings on YouTube. You’d need some dumbbells, but their free programs focus on building strength and muscle and promote a healthy view of fitness.

I’ve been using MadFit for three weeks now. It’s the only workout program I’ve stuck with for this long, which feels like a success. It’s great for beginners and has lots of apartment-friendly videos with different difficulty levels.

@Cedar
Totally agree! She’s awesome!

How about calisthenics?

Mary Braun, Pamela Reif, Tom Merrick, Hannah Martin, and Tatianna Rooney on YouTube offer great routines! Lots of no-jump options too. Best of luck with your fitness goals :muscle:

Try Move with Nicole for Pilates on YouTube

Lilly Sabri is my favorite!

I think it’s best to do whatever workout you can fit into your routine and stay motivated. For me, it’s the Peloton app, but I hardly use the bike anymore. I enjoy their short strength workouts, doing them in 10-minute sessions each day (sometimes more if I have time). I also keep track of my walks and bike rides. My motivation comes from maintaining streaks (I’m currently on a 185-week one) and earning badges. Even a little workout or stretch on a tired day keeps me in the groove. It’s the best $14.99 USD I spend each month.
