For men who work out at home, what routines would you suggest for someone starting out

Right now, I’ve been doing wall push-ups, wall pull-ups, and jackknife squats.

I just hop on my exercise bike while playing video games Any time I die in games like Dark Souls or Elden Ring, I do 10 push-ups instead. It’s not ideal for my reaction times, but it beats just sitting around

@Lin
I don’t have room for that equipment. I feel like I’d collapse if I did the Elden Ring thing since I can’t commit to those exercises for that long. But I’m definitely improving

Maybe it’s time to step things up You should consider getting adjustable dumbbells that don’t take much space.

Try squats, lunges, push-ups, crunches, and side planks. Find your limit for each and count how many you can do. Write it down. Do that each day for a few weeks. If you’re really sore one day, it’s okay to rest. Once it starts to feel easy, increase by one for each exercise. Before you know it, doing 20 or 30 push-ups will be very noticeable.

Grab some dumbbells and do curls That’s how I keep my muscles from going weak while being lazy.

Thanks, I’ll check it out Maybe I can find something to use as a substitute for dumbbells before buying several sets.

@Jay
I started with dumbbell bars where you can add weight plates, and then I bought more plates as I got stronger. Keep an eye on used item sites and store sales, and you can get started for less than you think. That’s all I use, and I just adjust the weights before each workout.

If you’re short on space, look into adjustable weights or a kettlebell They can be adjusted from 8 to 50 lbs and save lots of space.

@Wren
I had no idea they could be adjustable like that I’ll check it out.

I have adjustable dumbbells and a kettlebell from Bowflex They’re not cheap but I find them very handy.

Got it, thanks.

I started with basic bodyweight moves like lunges, push-ups, sit-ups, and burpees along with a simple folding exercise bike to keep in shape. I’ve since added workout bands and weight bags, but you can progress surprisingly well with simpler bodyweight exercises too.

@Valen
Thanks for the bodyweight tips, I’ll check them out!

Walking is a good start. Try walking up and down stairs or pace around your house.

I do a lot of walking, it helps.

I use a stationary bike that I got for about 100 bucks, and I try to do as many push-ups as possible, along with curls with my 25-pound dumbbells after work.
