Does anyone know of an app that creates customizable workouts with periodization tailored to the equipment you have?

FitBod is a subscription-based app that allows you to enter the equipment you have, your fitness goals (like weight loss or muscle building), and it generates a daily workout plan for you. You can also track the weights and reps you perform, as well as monitor your progress! I really enjoy using it.

I also recommend FitBod! It works great with my compact home gym setup, includes warm-ups and bodyweight exercises, and lets you exclude exercises you dislike (I can’t stand mountain climbers). It’s a good value, particularly if you opt for the annual subscription.

I can also suggest FitBod for what you need.

Yes! That’s what I appreciate the most about it.

You can likely discover workout videos on YouTube using keywords like “full body/arms/legs/core workout with no equipment/only dumbbells/only barbells,” etc. Check out beginner’s guide videos to find a routine that suits you.

If that feels like too much effort, consider finding a local personal trainer you like, either at local gyms or on Instagram or YouTube, and ask them to create a customized routine for you for a fee, of course.

Exactly. My wife and I canceled our gym membership because of how effective this can be. All we have are yoga mats and adjustable dumbbells.

You’ve essentially described the “Caliber” app perfectly. I’m almost suspicious that this is some clever advertisement that you’ve pulled me into.

The app creates a workout plan for you after asking a few basic questions, including what equipment you have. I’ve been using it for three weeks, and I really like it. You can find more info on r/caliberstrong.

Edit: It’s worth mentioning that it’s free. Check out the subreddit linked above if you’re interested or skeptical.

I really like the Seconds app (I think it’s called “Seconds Pro” after paying for the full features). It’s a customizable timer that allows you to create and save your own workouts. It provides a clear display of the current exercise name, what’s coming up next, and how much time or how many sets are left. You can also set it to announce when you’re halfway through a set and count down the last few seconds if you want.

I’ve been using it for years. I like to compile a long list of all the exercises I can do with my available equipment and space, then choose from that list to create a workout, often made up of supersets for 2-3 sets each. I keep a pen and notepad nearby during workouts to jot down adjustments like “+10 seconds rest after pull-ups” or “-5 seconds for the second set of push-ups” as I test the workout and improve. You can set how many reps you want for each set or design it as an AMRAP workout.

It really helps to add a cardio element to strength training by structuring and minimizing rest times between sets. You can accomplish a lot in just 10-15 minutes or create a full-body workout that takes only 20-25 minutes. I even include timed stretching sets at the end to ensure I focus on recovery. It requires some knowledge of possible exercises, but that’s easy to look up, and you can always modify and build upon it. Good luck!

I have my own app that I use as a fitness coach. Customizes workouts to your needs along with nutrition tips as well
