Are Home Workouts Useful?

I don’t have much time to go to the gym enough to see the change I want; however, I’m sure I could workout at home, but I don’t want to waste half an hour every day working out at home if it doesn’t work.

I only work out from home. You’ll get out of it what you put into it. I just watched exercise videos to get ideas, put my own wee workouts together, and I’m doing ok.

Ab workouts, squats, lunges, push-ups, etc. don’t need equipment. For equipment, start out small: dumbbells, resistance bands, ab wheels. Whatever style appeals to you. Adding pieces of equipment helps to give variety. Good luck.

Check out the bodyweightfitness sub; there are a few sample workouts on there that work great!

I definitely will, thank you!

I second the resistance bands! I’ve been using those, as well as dumbbells, and it’s great!

I have super bad anxiety when it comes to working out around other people (I was bullied a lot during PE and stuff in school; it just makes my brain not wanna do it anymore when people are around). If I couldn’t do it at home, I wouldn’t do it.

@Kemper
I live far away from a gym, and I also prefer at-home workouts. Working out at home gives you proper self-motivation and discipline, which are ideal traits for exercising.

Anytime, mate. If you’ve only got 30 minutes to workout, do high-intensity workouts. So no to low rest (10-15 seconds) in-between exercises. They’re efficient.

There are apps such as Fitbot that can build a regimen for you.

Depends on your goals and current status.

A 600lb couch potato can see results from a half-hour walk much better than prime Arnold Schwarzenegger would see.

You’ve heard the term ‘prison body’? Lots of benefits to push-ups, pull-ups, and bodyweight squats/lunges.

I’m fine with my weight and stuff now; I just want more core strength.

I saw Chris Hemsworth doing weighted punching sit-ups on TV and figured if it works for him, it’d work for me. I started with 50 sit-ups with 2-lb dumbbells in each hand. Do a full sit-up then throw two crosses at the top, and twist as you punch. I worked up to 10-lb dumbbells pretty quickly, and I now have a visible 6-pack after about 8 months of this 4x/week (I do other ab work, but this is my main thing and definitely the toughest). Also, my arms and shoulders look pretty f’in amazing because I’m doing 100 weighted punches each time. Make sure you hold the weights out from your body in a boxing position when you come up to hit your biceps too. It’s super efficient too; you hit so many muscles all at once.

@Eden
You sound so proud of yourself; I’m just love it and super happy for you. (That’s it; I really wanted to share this.)

Most popular core strength exercises don’t require any gear at all. You can get really far with planks and leg lifts. Add in a pull-up bar (for hanging leg lifts and pull-ups) and you’re golden.

I work out from home with pretty much no equipment (just a few dumbbells), and it has always worked for me.

Could you give an update about this since it’s been a year?

You think it’s worth it to exercise at home still?

Let me tell you my personal experience. Until I had a kid 4 years ago, I was pretty much regular in the gym and had nice results to show from that kind of lifestyle regarding overall health and physique. When my kid was born I just didn’t have time or energy for it, and I went to absolutely feeling and looking like shit. A couple of months ago I decided to start home workouts without any kind of equipment and downloaded the first app I saw and just started grinding again. You wouldn’t believe me, but I never felt better in my life. My chest and shoulders started looking like they f***ing supposed to look after just a few weeks in.

@Payton
That’s amazing! I’m happy it worked out for you.

I forgot to mention I also went for 16/8 intermittent fasting, and I think that’s a game changer too. I truly recommend it.

@Payton
I’m also doing that too, actually! It definitely helps.
